Angry Santa Spice London Ale

Starting to get myself into the holiday spirit with some holiday ales.  And if the can art of Rahr & Sons' Angry Santa Spiced London Ale doesn't do it for you, maybe the excellent beer will instead.  The 8% brew pours a dark brown with an off-white head and smells of cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, toffee, and some notes of apple.  The flavor follows the nose with some additional hints of vanilla, all in a medium bodied brew that really hits the spot.  Let's get festive.

Rumpy Rum Barrel Aged Pumpkin Ale

Let's get one more pumpkin ale in as the season comes to a close.  Rahr & Sons make it even livelier by making it extra boozy.  Finishing off a strange but still fun Halloween comes Rumpy, a rum barrel aged pumpkin ale.  The 9% ABV brew pours a goldish brown with a quickly dissipating white head and smells of rum, pumpkins, and spices.  The flavor is similar to the aroma, plenty of rum and pumpkin spice to go around, with some additional hints of brown sugar.  A wonderful Autumn brew.

Rahr & Sons Den of Sin Pumpkin Ale

They're vanishing from the shelves now, giving way to Christmas and winter ales, so i figured i should get one more pumpkin ale on the books before 2019 eventually wraps up.  And the Den of Sin Pumpkin Ale from Fort Worth's Rahr & Sons is a wonderful example of the style to end on.  Pouring a dark brownish amber, the 7.8% ABV ale smells of clove, nutmeg, cinnamon, and pumpkin.  Flavors of pumpkin and holiday spices abound with notes of brown sugar and malt, a sweet libation to ride out the fall season to.

Rahr and Sons Bourbon Barrel Aged Winter Warmer

And from out of nowhere...it's winter here in Austin again.  Temperatures hung around the 30's all day, gray clouds, mist and cold, light rain.  It's the perfect weather for a strong libation.  Enter the Bourbon Barrel Aged Winter Warmer, an English dark ale from Fort Worth's Rahr and Sons Brewing Company.  This 9% ABV creation pours a dark, pitch black with a frothy, tan head.  The beer looks thick, and it packs a punch.  The bourbon is very prevalent in both the aroma and the flavor.  Add in some light touches of vanilla, chocolate, oak, malt, and some subtle spiciness, and you've got yourself the perfect beer to warm you up on a cold day or night.  But drink slowly.  You'll want another one as soon as your finished.
